Refugee Therapy Centre

Bilingual Support Outreach/Community Development Worker (Turkish, Lingala and Farsi speaking)

Salary scale: £15,000 - £21,000 p.a. depending skills and experience
Working days: 1 - 3 days a week (negotiable)

The Outreach/Community Development Workers will work closely with the Managing Director/Clinical Director and Operational Manager to raise awareness of mental health in refugee communities and to assist refugees and asylum seekers who may be experiencing mental health problems whilst supporting them in accessing appropriate support and services.

The duties will include:

  • Developing links with Refugee Community Organisations and mainstream agencies to raise awareness of mental health issues and local services.
  • Producing and distributing information on the service
  • Referring refuges and asylum seekers in need of therapeutic support to the Refugee Therapy Centre or other appropriate services
  • Offering guidance and support to clients of the Refugee Therapy Centre
  • Facilitating the development of support groups
  • Collating and maintaining data associated with the role.

The candidate has to be confident with the local community, be committed to the welfare and progress of refugees and asylum seekers, be professional and sensitive to confidentiality, have experience of working with refuges and asylum seekers in a primary care/mental health setting, have the ability to speak and write fluently in Turkish, Lingala or Farsi and in English, have good organisational skills and be able to work as part of a team.
