Dear Friends,
Please can you help us to raise the money we need to
purchase more suitable premises for our work?
We are appealing to you to help us create a
therapeutic “home” for the people we are working with,
who have lost their homes due to war or conflict or the
way they think, in some cases simply for believing in
Human Rights. Many have endured debilitating human
rights abuses including violence, persecution, torture,
imprisonment and sexual assault, as well as multiple
losses and bereavement. Your donation will help us to
ensure that we can provide appropriate treatment in a
healing environment to refugees and asylum seekers who
seek help from our service.
We are currently based in a house, which we moved to in
December 2004. It was a great opportunity for us to have
our own building, but we do not have a proper waiting
room, access or toilet facilities for disabled people, a
children’s room or a large enough training room. Since
then, as the demand for our service has continued to
grow and our activities have developed to meet the needs
of the people we are serving, a move to larger premises
has become necessary. We are now urgently appealing
for capital to purchase a new building with improved
access for disabled people and an increased amount of
space for all our activities.
After considerable research over the last two years, we
have now found a building in the local area with
fantastic potential. It is a beautiful redbrick
structure which was built around the turn of the
century, with more than 6,000 square foot, ideal to be
renovated to meet our needs.
By purchasing new premises, the Centre will have a
more flexible, multi-purpose space in which to provide
help to refugees and asylum seekers. We will be able
to work more effectively with individuals, couples,
children and families, whatever their level of physical
ability. We can have a specially designed family room as
well as a room with the equipment for working with
children and adolescents. We can have a training room
with space for people to have access to computers and a
library area for study.
We would be grateful for any amount that you, your
friends or family can give us.
With best wishes,
Aida Alayarian
Clinical Director

Vjollca,

“The
Refugee Therapy Centre has been a great light for me…
The fact
that there are people in my life working with all their
strength and calmness so that I can have a happy life,
gives me hope for living… Therapy has been like a safe
haven and being able to have a therapist who speaks my
own language makes me feel like a home.”
